GUITAR CENTER PROFESSIONAL HELPS FILM SCORE COMPOSER
JAMES NEWTON HOWARD TAKE HIS STUDIO TO THE NEXT LEVEL— With Guitar Center Professional’s help, award-winning composer Howard can now score,
record and mix in surround sound at his JNH Studio —WESTLAKE VILLAGE, CA, March 26, 2008 – James Newton Howard, award-winning composer of music scores for contemporary hit films such as Charlie Wilson’s War, I Am Legend, Michael Clayton and Blood Diamond, and classics such as Glengarry Glen Ross and Prince of Tides, recently felt that an upgrade of his JNH Studio facility in Los Angeles was a necessity. Howard, who has won an EMMY® Award for his scoring for television, and has seven OSCAR®, three Golden Globe® and two GRAMMY® nominations, wanted to add surround mixing capability, in order to give him the ability to mix in-house and finish projects much more efficiently, as well as enhance the creative process. As he has in the past, Howard turned to Guitar Center Professional (GC Pro), the outside sales division of Guitar Center that focuses on the needs of professional users, to help achieve his technology goals.
GC Pro sold Howard a 40-channel Euphonix System 5 digital console with surround capability, as well as nine SSL Xlogic Delta Link MADI HD units that link his keyboards and other external gear directly to a new Digidesign Pro Tools HD system, also supplied by GC Pro. A new Tascam GigaStudio 4 96kHz/24-bit sampler with unlimited polyphony further bolsters Howard’s suite of composition tools. Rounding out the upgrade package was a Lexicon 960 digital signal processor and a TC Electronic M6000 digital reverb, both of which are surround-ready, and multiple Apple Mac Pro computers with 8-core, 3.0-GHz processors.
“James wanted to be able to have greater control over his scores by not having to outsource his mixes,” explained Richard Ash, GC Pro Southern California Account Manager. “We helped him choose systems that would deliver surround mix capability for his studio yet would also be easily and reliably interconnected. The Delta Links are a good example – they allow a much higher degree of connectivity between the equipment he uses to compose and the equipment he will record and mix it with.”
