FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Roland RE-201 Space Echo to Be Inducted into TECnology Hall of Fame

Legendary effects unit recognized for audio technology contributions

Los Angeles, CA, December 17, 2015 — Roland Corporation proudly announces that its legendary RE-201 Space Echo effects unit has been chosen to be inducted into the TECnology Hall of Fame, Class of 2016.

The Hall of Fame, presented by the NAMM Museum of Making Music, honors audio products and innovations that have significantly contributed to the advancement of audio technology. Hosted by audio historian George Petersen, the TECnology Hall of Fame Celebration and Induction will take place at The NAMM Show on Saturday, January 23, 2016, 4pm to 6pm, Master Class Room 202A.

Each year, a panel of audio experts (authors, educators, engineers, facility owners and others) select the inductees. This year’s panel commented:

The Roland RE-201 Space Echo was hardly the first tape loop-based delay device, but added sophisticated controls — such as variable tape speeds, three-input mixer, 12 mode settings and a built-in spring reverb — that took it beyond the competition. . .the Space Echo offered a certain sound that soon became a favorite of artists of the time, including Bob Marley, David Bowie and Pink Floyd, and remains a staple in live performance and recorded tracks today, whether from vintage originals or in plug-in form.

Today, this classic effect can be found in the BOSS RE-20 Space Echo twin pedal. Roland and BOSS recreated every sonic detail and nuance so that modern players can experience the beloved echo that made the original so sought after.
