Nashville, TN: Ryan Frankel’s Jam Band Studio (JBS), a planned vision come to fruition by Frankel and acoustically designed by Carl Tatz Design ® LLC, has opened its doors in Gainesville, Florida. This unique CTD PhantomFocus MixRoom™ Studio’s mission can best be explained by Frankel on the Jam Band’s website: “Jam Band Studio is a non-commercial recording studio created by Ryan Frankel as a project to make music, for the love of music. Being North Florida’s only PhantomFocus MixRoom™ Studio, Jam Band Studio offers a pro-level environment for musicians in the area. At the end of the day music should be fun — without the constant clock-watching involved with regular studios. At Jam Band Studio we can be as creative and weird as we want.”
Jam Band Studio has been designed and constructed from the ground up overlooking bucolic Colclough Pond and features a large 18-foot-high tracking room with a full glass wall facing the pond. So that musicians can play together in the same room without the use of gobos, Frankel specified three acoustically treated amp closets along with a large vocal booth that can also be used for drums.
The Jam Band Studio PhantomFocus MixRoom features a top-tier PFM UHD-1000 Master Reference Monitor System hovering over a Carl Tatz Edition Dual 15L Console by Argosy® with a pair of Silver Mesh Porcelain eChairs™.
Jam Band Studio owner Ryan Frankel shares his CTD PhantomFocus MixRoom Studio experience: “In an effort to make Jam Band Studio North Florida’s premier recording studio I can’t speak highly enough about the team at Carl Tatz Design. From the initial concept to the build out of the studio, the Carl Tatz Design team was knowledgeable, helpful and incredible to work with. They helped with every aspect of the studio design and the results have been stunning. Everyone that walks in and listens to the PFM UHD-1000 Reference Monitor System, from professional producers and engineers to recording artists, marvels at the clarity, depth, and overall balance of the system. For the first time it really feels like you can hear precision in the mix, details of the reverb tails, and a sense of three dimensions of the sources.”

About the PhantomFocus™ Monitor System
Carl Tatz Design’s proprietary PhantomFocus™ Monitor System monitor tuning protocol offers clients a unique opportunity to have a truly world-class monitoring experience in their room, no matter how modest. All speakers interact with the room they’re in, and the PhantomFocus Monitor System allows any monitors to perform at maximum accuracy – in any room – with a full 20Hz-to-20KHz frequency response and pinpoint imaging in what some owners have described as a “holographic sweet spot.” It is a new level of sonic accuracy that engenders easier, better and faster mixing that translates well in any environment.
There are approximately fifty steps in the proprietary PhantomFocus Monitor System implementation protocol, including phase alignment, system damping, speaker decoupling and isolation mounting, careful assessment of engineer/speaker placement relative to primary axial room modes, proprietary laser-calibrated speaker distancing and angle alignments, digitally-controlled crossover points and slopes for pass filtering, and, proprietary, multiband parametric equalization.
Hardware solutions can include monitor stands, concrete, Sorbothane™ and other isolation and damping materials, custom floating plenum mounts, subwoofer systems and custom digital processors. The PhantomFocus Monitor System evaluation and implementation is a full two-day process and can be applied to near-fields, mid-fields, and large soffit mounted monitors, regardless of manufacturer.
Carl Tatz Design installs the PhantomFocus Monitor System in existing control rooms and in all studios that are designed and built from the ground up by CTD. The result is like the aural equivalent of HDTV. Once you experience a PhantomFocus Monitor System, you can’t go back.
