Nashville, TN: TEC Award-winning studio design firm and leading studio monitoring authority Carl Tatz Design® LLC (CTD) has entered into a distribution agreement with Cologne, Germany-based MasteringWorks GmbH to distribute the Carl Tatz Design (CTD) line of PhantomFocus Precision Monitoring Instruments beginning with the PhantomFocus eChair. The eChair has found its way into numerous U.S. and Canadian recording studios and is part of CTD's PhantomFocus Monitor System.
MasteringWorks is a European distribution firm that carries an exclusive selection of high-end audio gear and networks with the leaders in the pro audio industry, providing audio professionals with studio solutions, support and innovative ideas.
Since the firm was founded in 2009, Stefan Heger, MasteringWorks founder and CEO (who first brought the Dangerous Music 2 Bus to Europe), has continuously maintained close relationships to the individual customer and created a unique distribution model.
Also an acclaimed mastering engineer at MasteringWorks, Heger is always on the lookout for creative innovations and workflow improvements for studios and engineers. After trying several chairs that promised to optimize sitting and improve lumbar support, he found Carl Tatz's Phantom Focus eChair.
Heger comments, “This chair draws your attention to your seated posture and encourages smooth and comfortable movement. The backrest offers optimum support using minimal space, with a smaller footprint compared to other chairs. The meshed material minimizes seat slippage and offers plenty of air flow for many hours of comfortable work.”
In addition to the Carl Tatz Design line of PhantomFocus products, MasteringWorks distributes Dangerous Music, Sterling Modular, rockruepel, Guzauski-Swist and other pro audio solutions. The company also offers comprehensive educational workshops.
“We're very excited to be entering into the European pro audio landscape and looking forward to working closely with MasteringWorks to offer our unique product line to this important market sector. MasteringWorks has an extremely loyal customer base, and I am delighted to be able to work with such an experienced and professional organization,” states CTD principal Carl Tatz.
Of note, a PhantomFocus eChair model has recently been nominated for the prestigious NAMM TEC Award. This is the first nomination in the Technical Achievement category for Carl Tatz Design, having previously been nominated four times and winning once in the Creative Achievement category for its studio designs. Also of note, the new PhantomFocus.com website is scheduled to go online October 1.

About the PhantomFocus™ System
Carl Tatz Design’s proprietary PhantomFocus™ System monitor tuning protocol offers clients a unique opportunity to have a truly world-class monitoring experience in their room, no matter how modest. All speakers interact with the room they’re in, and the PhantomFocus System allows any monitors to perform at maximum accuracy - in any room - with a full 20Hz-to-20KHz frequency response and pinpoint imaging in what some owners have described as a “holographic sweet spot.” It is a new level of sonic accuracy that engenders easier, better and faster mixing that translates well in any environment.
There are approximately fifty steps in the proprietary PhantomFocus System implementation protocol, including phase alignment, system damping, speaker decoupling and isolation mounting, careful assessment of engineer/speaker placement relative to primary axial room modes, proprietary laser-calibrated speaker distancing and angle alignments, digitally-controlled crossover points and slopes for pass filtering, and, proprietary, multiband parametric equalization.
Hardware solutions can include monitor stands, concrete, Sorbothane™ and other isolation and damping materials, custom floating plenum mounts, subwoofer systems and custom digital processors. The PhantomFocus System evaluation and implementation is a full two-day process and can be applied to near-fields, mid-fields, and large soffit mounted monitors, regardless of manufacturer.
Carl Tatz Design installs the PhantomFocus System in existing control rooms and in all studios that are designed and built from the ground up by CTD. The result is like the aural equivalent of HD TV. Once you experience a PhantomFocus System, you can’t go back.
