Black Cat crosses CTD’s path at Sammy Mitchell’s new PhantomFocus MixRoom™ studio named Black Cat
Luxury destination studio opens outside of Nashville, TN, in a pastoral setting
Nashville, TN: Designed as a luxury destination recording studio by Carl Tatz Design® (CTD) for multi-platinum songwriter and producer/engineer Sammy Mitchell, Black Cat features creature-comfort dovetailed with unmatched monitoring performance in this outstanding PhantomFocus MixRoom Studio.
Black Cat was built from the ground up in a pastoral setting just outside of Nashville, TN, in a barn-themed structure. Mitchell hired Carl Tatz Design® to design this beautiful studio that features an acoustically neutral tracking room with two signature CTD overdub booths, a utility room, amp closet, a comfortable lounge and kitchenette, and the pièce de résistance PhantomFocus MixRoom™.
The MixRoom features a top-of-the-line PFM UHD-1000 Monitor System with primary and secondary sweet spots, PhantomFocus eChairs™, AcousticLens™ wall treatment, and Axial Mode Absorber™ rear wall, along with an API 1608 console, full complement of outboard gear, and a wide selection of stomp-boxes. The other half of the barn is a full two-story residence for out-of-town clients and is separated by a large breezeway that facilitates privacy and easy load-ins.

Carl Tatz Design’s proprietary PhantomFocus™ Monitor System monitor tuning protocol offers clients a unique opportunity to have a truly world-class monitoring experience in their room, no matter how modest. The PhantomFocus Monitor System evaluation and implementation is a full two-day process and can be applied to near-fields, mid-fields, and large soffit mounted monitors, regardless of manufacturer.
