FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Auralex® Is the Sound Control Solution of Choice for Home Theater Designers UltraMedia

— Auralex products and services were critical for a new home theater in the Dallas area where
second-floor construction made acoustics and sound isolation especially challenging —

— Sonic performance, aesthetic flexibility and customization options create a triple
play that no other acoustics products developer can match —

INDIANAPOLIS, IN, SEPTEMBER 24, 2012 – When working with clients to create the home theater of their dreams, sonic performance and aesthetics are two critical elements that come into play for a company like UltraMedia, which designs and builds integrated home entertainment systems from their base in Richardson, Texas. And this is why they have turned to acoustical products and services from Auralex® Acoustics, Inc., the world’s leading brand of acoustical treatments and soon to celebrate its 35th anniversary. UltraMedia’s last installs have relied extensively on Auralex’s three key advantages: exceptional sonic performance, a high degree of aesthetic flexibility and customization options. Also key is Auralex’s Free Personalized Room Analysis, which helps AV systems integrators determine the best combination and configuration of sound control solutions to address challenging acoustic situations.

One of the most recent projects, a theater at a personal residence in Dallas, perfectly illustrates what AV integrators can accomplish with Auralex. The theater’s audio is top-notch, with a 7.2 complement of Triad speakers located within the room. The three L-C-R speakers are positioned behind an acoustically transparent Stewart video screen, and four surround speakers are located in a horseshoe-shaped configuration that fully envelops the listener. Two Triad Gold subwoofers are strategically placed in the corners and are tuned to the room’s dimensions to yield incredibly tight low-frequency response. UltraMedia worked closely with Auralex to select the sound control products for this system, and they decided on an ELiTE Custom Fabric System (ELiTE-CFS), featuring absorption, diffusion and bass trapping elements, designed specifically to blend with the room’s décor.

UltraMedia’s Lead System Designer on the project, Mike Brock, describes the complex design that went into the room’s isolation and acoustical treatment: “The construction of the room is structurally reinforced with 2x6 [joists],” he explains. “The entire room has been insulated to help keep the sound inside the room and minimize sound leakage to the rest of the house. The riser base for the back row of chairs was built and reinforced with wood screws and it was fully insulated. Because the media room is on the second floor, a layer of sound barrier was added to the floors to provide an additional layer of sound control within the room. We treated the finished walls with Auralex’s ELiTE Custom Fabric System. We applied a complex combination of absorptive, reflective and diffusive treatments throughout the room to create a well balanced acoustic environment for music and movies, and we were able to source all of them directly from Auralex.”

Brock adds that Auralex’s acoustical engineers played a substantial role in helping pick the right acoustical elements: “I sent them a diagram of the theater space with all the key parameters, and we went back and forth, coming up with a plan for the acoustics that worked out incredibly well,” he says. “The two things that really characterize working with Auralex is their very deep knowledge base about acoustics and sound, and the high level of cooperation that we receive. Both of those things help us as designers move forward and do a lot to reassure our customers.”

Finally, Brock notes that the interior designer on the project was happy that Auralex’s ELiTE Custom Fabric Panels complemented the room’s décor. “She brought in a faux painter to create a leather-like texture on the walls,” he says. “She very creatively faux-painted the acoustic cloth panels to match the leather look and feel of the room, without in any way affecting the ability of the Auralex panels to do their job. The results are amazing – it’s a theater that looks great and sounds great, and Auralex played a big part in achieving both of those goals.”
