WAVES CELEBRATES 15 YEARS OF LEADERSHIP AND
INNOVATION IN DIGITAL AUDIO SIGNAL PROCESSING
WINTER NAMM SHOW, ANAHEIM, CA, January 17, 2008
— This year marks the
fifteenth anniversary of one of the professional audio industry’s
most notable success stories: Waves Audio Ltd. With its founding, Waves
literally created an entire new industry sector fifteen years ago with
the introduction of the groundbreaking Q10 Paragraphic Equalizer. The
Q10 revolutionized the world of professional audio and transformed the
way we work, by giving the computer a new status in music recording
and offering sound quality on par with its hardware counterparts.
Further stimulating Waves’ first decade of success
was the development of the L1 Limiter, which established a new benchmark
for dynamic controls. Still considered innovative close to a decade
later, countless L-Series tools are relied upon daily in studios globally.
Propelled by an increasingly diverse and comprehensive
product line, Waves quickly became a favorite of engineers worldwide
and the first choice of recognized audio trendsetters. Waves founders
Gilad Keren and Meir Shaashua share music as their first love. When
establishing Waves, Gilad drew upon his experience as an accomplished
sound engineer who had recorded and produced hits for major Israeli
artists. Meir brought with him his experience as a musician in successful
bands. Both Gilad and Meir furthered their passion by studying the science
behind the sound — Meir attended Jerusalem’s Hebrew University
and majored in Physics and Mathematics, graduating in 1985, while Gilad
graduated from Israel’s Institute of Technology with a degree
in Applied Mathematics. They began developing DSP audio tools together
in 1988, and in 1992 founded Waves in Israel and the U.S. simultaneously.
Gilad remembers Waves’ modest beginnings. He notes,
“Our early products, tools like the Q10 and L1, put us on the
map globally. They have since been used on countless hit recordings
and film scores, soundtracks, commercial spots, and television shows.
Software that some thought would be a ‘toy’ compared to
hardware fifteen years ago now replaces multiple hardware boxes, with
superior control, integration and performance.”
Fifteen years later, Waves has grown into the world’s
leading developer and supplier of software-based audio signal processing
technologies, while expanding to meet the demand for Waves processing
in hardware-based products. Waves’ current product line has increased
to over 90 processors, with over 250 component plug-ins, over 20 bundles,
and several major hardware tools that have been widely embraced by the
audio industry in music production, film, post production, live, and
broadcast sound. Today, Waves full line of popular tools includes the
L1 and L2 Ultramaximizers, the L3 and L3-16 Multimaximizers, the SSL
4000 Collection, the V-Series, the API Collection, GTR Guitar Tool Rack,
Waves Tune, IR1 Parametric Convolution Reverb, the Renaissance Series,
Z-Noise, and many more.
Waves technologies are also found in products from some
of the biggest names in consumer electronics, including Sony, Sanyo,
JVC, Toshiba, and Altec Lansing. Waves sound enhancement tools like
MaxxVolume, MaxxBass, and MaxxVoice dramatically enhance audio performance
and improve sound in televisions, laptops, cellphones, and portable
audio.
The company has also developed the Waves Certification
Program in conjunction with audio engineering schools, as well as a
publishing arm, Sound.Org, which publishes interactive educational courses
on audio processing that include complete multi-track sessions.
Year after year, Waves has received top industry accolades,
including numerous consecutive Mix Magazine TEC Awards, Pro Audio Review
PAR Excellence Awards, Guitar Player Editor’s Choice Awards, as
well as honors from EQ, Electronic Musician, MacUser, and many, many
others.
Used in over 10,000 recording studios by more than 100,000
users worldwide, the Waves sound can be heard in major motion pictures,
on popular video games, as well as on hit records selling well over
100,000,000 units. Waves’ strong reputation for outstanding quality
and technical leadership make it the acknowledged market leader for
audio software plug-ins used in the creation of music, movies, and computer
games.
