— Sound.org, a publishing company created by the founders of Waves
Ltd., the world’s leading supplier of professional audio software
plug-ins, has announced the release of The Trance Experience –
An Introduction to Electronic Dance Music by German DJ/Producer Torsten
Fassbender. On sale now, this groundbreaking title is an interactive
course created to provide readers with a step-by-step guide to producing,
mixing and remixing Electronic Dance Music.
The Trance Experience is the latest addition to Sound.org’s
OPENMIX™ book series, which includes a five DVD set containing
the complete multi-track session files for three original mixes in Pro
Tools®, Logic, Cubase, Nuendo, Digital Performer, GarageBand and
Sonar recording formats, as well as demonstration versions of Waves
plug-ins. The OPENMIX format is an original hands-on approach that allows
readers to follow instructional text while working on the actual mix
created by the author, with complete freedom to create their own mix.
In The Trance Experience, Fassbender provides a complete
guide to cutting edge production methods used in today’s popular
electronic music styles. Beginning with song conception and composition,
he takes readers through loop manipulation, instrumentation, arrangement,
breakdowns, fill-ins and mix-outs, all the way to completing the final
mix. Fassbender also covers signal processing theory, techniques and
sound design, as well as general mixing and mastering practices. The
DVD set includes a selection of original, copyright-cleared, royalty-free
sounds and samples readers can use to create their own compositions.
Additional tools used to produce the original mixes include digital
audio products from companies such as Apple® Logic, Native Instruments,
MOTU, UAD, FabFilter, Sony, Audio Ease and Basement Arts.
Fassbender offers tips that will be valuable to both beginners
and veterans, such as how to create a kick drum from a sine wave; how
to judge whether one sample or pattern will combine well with another;
and how to get the most from FM synthesis.
As an experienced Dance music producer, Fassbender offers
a rare insider’s view of the electronic music world, based on
more than a decade of experience in the European club scene. Here he
provides an expansive overview of the leading styles and describes the
many genres and sub-genres of Trance music, including Vocal Trance,
Melodic Trance, Epic Trance, Deep Trance and Progressive Trance.
DJ producer Torsten Fassbender has released records on
several European labels and is best known for remixes of Blank &
Jones and PPK, as well as his own Wellenrausch project. His productions
and remixes have appeared on numerous compilations and can be found
on the top club DJ’s playlists worldwide.
The Trance Experience is available in both English and
German. It can be purchased online at www.sound.org and at book and
music retailers from December 5th, 2005. To celebrate the book’s
release, Torsten Fassbender will be conducting a reader’s forum
on the Sound.Org website.
