FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
VOX LAUNCHES TONELAB™ —
VALVETRONIX™ MODELING POWER
IN A PORTABLE, DESKTOP FORMAT
VOX announces the newest member of the Valvetronix™
series, the ToneLab™ Amp and Effect Modeler. It delivers VOX’s
critically acclaimed Valvetronix modeling* in a compact desktop device
designed for recording and live performance. ToneLab employs VOX’s
patented Valve Reactor™ circuit — a proprietary design that
uses a 12AX7 dual triode as a power amp tube — to recreate the
sound and feel of a variety of vacuum tube guitar amps. The new ToneLab
offers faithful models of 16 amps ranging from vintage classics to modern
“boutique” standards, plus a wide variety of effects, noise
reduction, a selection of inputs/outputs, and an intuitive user interface.
ToneLab takes Valvetronix technology to the next level by incorporating
10 cabinet models that reproduce the acoustic character of a variety
of cabinet shapes and speaker types for unmatched modeling realism.
At the heart of the ToneLab is VOX’s Valve Reactor
circuit (originally introduced in the Valvetronix amplifiers). This
technology enables ToneLab to provide the sound, feel, and dynamic range
of all-tube amplifiers. It simulates the reactive load of a real speaker,
and reconfigures itself to match the characteristics of the amps it
is modeling (switches from class A to class AB, selects negative feedback
parameters, etc.). Complementing ToneLab’s array of amp and cab
models are 22 built-in digital effects (up to four can be used simultaneously)
that model a variety of sought after vintage and popular effects. Effects
include classics such as compressor, overdrive, chorus, tremolo, rotary
speaker, acoustic simulator, tape echo, and auto wah. In addition to
48 preset programs, a combination of amps, cabinets, and effects can
be set up as one of 48 user programs (all 96 programs can be re-written).
A LINE/AMP switch allows the user to send ToneLab’s
signal to any device for direct line recording, or to a sound system
and/or guitar amp for live performance on stage. Also included is a
digital output (S/PDIF) for recording in a digital environment, a headphone
out for private practicing, MIDI IN/OUT, and a built-in Korg digital
tuner.
ToneLab features heavy-duty metal construction and control
knobs; operation is easy and intuitive. Program names, parameter values,
and original values are displayed on the LCD screen, which is backlit
for enhanced visibility. Valve icons show the number and type of power
tubes used in the original amp being modeled.
Dedicated editor software for ToneLab is provided, but
can also be downloaded from www.voxamps.co.uk. This software enables
the user to tweak to levels beyond what is available on ToneLab’s
front panel, as well as manage an unlimited number of programs.
For live performance, the optional VC-4 or VC-12 foot
controller allows the user to switch programs, control the volume or
effect parameters, switch effects on/off, set the delay time, or access
the tuner. Compact and portable, the new VOX ToneLab weighs 5.3lbs.
and measures 12.5"(W) x 8.38"(D) x 3.11"(H).
The VOX ToneLab Amp and Effect Modeler will be available
September 2003 with a suggested retail price of $600.
