VOX VALVETRONIX™ OFFERS A GENEROUS SONIC PALETTE FOR SUGAR RAY’S
COLORFUL PERFORMANCES
Pop icons Sugar Ray have achieved enormous success with their unusual
and addictive blend of rock, funk, hip-hop, and other musical elements.
They’ve turned out a series of platinum albums with numerous hit
singles, including the chart-topping anthem “Fly,” and collected
a legion of fans in the process.
While on tour, Sugar Ray provides audiences with many
welcome surprises, always putting something unexpected into the mix.
One variation involves their drummer Stan Frazier, who also serves as
rhythm guitarist during part of their live performances. While on guitar
duty, he relies on the VOX Valvetronix™ digital modeling amplifier
to help him enhance the band’s unique style.
When playing live, Frazier employs his Valvetronix for
such tunes as “When It’s Over.” He remarks, “I
have the VOX Valvetronix amplifier onstage, but I also bought another
one for home recording. It’s such a versatile amp. It really sounds
great in any circumstance. With the different speakers, sounds, amps,
and all the effects, I can get any sound I want out of it.” Frazier
continues, “I use the AC30 setting a lot. It’s cool to use
that cabinet sound along with a little bit of spring reverb. I am constantly
tweaking the sounds to see what I can get. It is a really good amp —
all around, across the board, it’s awesome!”
In addition to his work with Sugar Ray, Frazier is currently
co-writing and producing an album for Geffen artist Ashley Simpson (Jessica
Simpson’s younger sister). The recording, which is due out next
year, will incorporate the adaptable tones of the VOX Valvetronix amp,
as well.
Sugar Ray’s latest release, In the Pursuit of Leisure,
features renowned producer David Kahne, who lends an instantly recognizable,
edgy feel to the album. For more information on Stan Frazier and Sugar
