FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LEADING-EDGE GUITARISTS PERFECT THEIR ART
WITH VOX TONELAB™
Sevendust have had a high-impact role in bringing about
the resurgence of metal, with their hard-edged melodies and soulful
delivery. The band’s most recent album release, the unexpected
yet intense acoustic offering, Southside Double-Wide, features many
of their most resonant songs reworked acoustically. This new approach
was facilitated by the VOX ToneLab™ Amp and Effect Modeler, which
delivers VOX’s critically acclaimed Valvetronix™ modeling
in a compact, desktop package designed for recording.
Sevendust guitarist John Connelly explains his appreciation
of the warm, tube-enhanced sounds of ToneLab, “I’ve always
used a tube amp and a solid state amp for my live stuff. Even when I
record, I usually double up with a solid state amp against a tube amp.
It’s very difficult to get good, clean sounds in your home studio
with a product that doesn’t have any kind of tube in it. Clean
stuff sound better through a tube, and that was the first thing I noticed
about the ToneLab.” He continues, “When I was going through
the ToneLab, the sounds were absolutely amazing! It's clean sounds and
that extra little bit of warmth were a pleasant surprise. The ToneLab’s
acoustic simulator was a big help, too.”
Leading the pop-punk breakthrough is Simple Plan, who
also employ VOX’s ToneLab for their energetic, driven sound. Featured
on popular soundtracks including Scooby-Doo and New York Minute, Simple
Plan is moving quickly to the musical forefront. Guitarist Jeff Stinco
remarks, “I love the concept and the practical aspect of modeling
technology, but I often find modeled tube amp sounds pretty harsh and
cold. In the case of the ToneLab, I found the sounds were more realistic
and more natural than anything else I’ve heard.” Stinco
adds, “I'm demoing all my song ideas with the ToneLab right now.
It sounds great, it’s quick and I can recall my sounds days later
when I need to change parts of songs. It’s a great songwriting
tool. It would also be great with a power amp as a very versatile rig.”
Genre twisting, masked rockers Slipknot fuse metal and
rap elements in an attention-grabbing fashion that has taken the music
scene by surprise. ToneLab has proven a useful tool for Slipknot’s
guitarist Jim Root, who comments, “I like the layout of the ToneLab
— everything is easy to get to, it’s simple to use and portable.
I love the fact that it has a tube, and it sounds great for recording.
I’ve used pretty much every amp model for different recording
applications. You can go from a crystal clean to an overdriven tone
very easily, and dial any of the effects into any amp model, making
it real versatile. It’s cool looking too,” Root concludes.
