FOO FIGHTERS’ CHRIS SHIFLETT CHOOSES VOX AC30 HAND-WIRED COMBO GUITAR AMPLIFIERS

MELVILLE, NY, May 19, 2011Foo Fighters have been hard at work promoting their new album Wasting Light, which made its debut in April on the Billboard Top 200 chart at #1 in 12 countries – a first for the band. During a recent string of “secret shows” in Southern California and Austin, Texas, and on national television appearances leading up to the band’s world tour, lead guitarist Chris Shiflett relied on his brand new VOX AC30 Hand-Wired combo amplifiers.

Shiflett’s retro-style, fawn-colored AC30 Hand-Wired amps have featured prominently in the band’s backline during performances in small clubs and on primetime TV shows such as Saturday Night Live, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and Late Show with David Letterman over the past few months. As the guitarist relates, he first adopted the AC30s with one of his other music projects, Chris Shiflett & the Dead Peasants.

“The VOX AC30 is a classic amp and I used one a lot during the recording of my Dead Peasants record. Once I did some touring for that album, I started to see how that sound could apply to what I do in the Foos.” Now, as Foo Fighters gear up to promote Wasting Light worldwide for the rest of the year, he adds, “I’m running two in stereo for my hot tone live and it’s pretty ripping. I’ve got those things pinned.”

Not surprisingly, it was the AC30’s traditional and timeless tone that drew Shiflett to the amp: “I just like the distortion you get from driving an AC30 really hot. It’s nice and dirty but you can still hear the definition and notes,” he comments.

Beginning mid-May, Foo Fighters embark on a busy summer touring schedule that includes two sold out shows in front of 130,000 fans at the Milton Keynes Bowl in England over the July Fourth weekend. Appropriately, Shiflett says of his VOX amps, “My Hand-Wired VOX AC30s are the tone that I’ve been looking for, for a long, long time. They give me all the fireworks, but all the subtlety as well!”

Shiflett, former lead guitarist with Bay Area punks No Use for a Name, joined Foo Fighters in 2000.
