VOX ROCKS CHARITY EVENT WITH JIMMY PAGE AND BRIAN MAY
MELVILLE, NY, November 8, 2005 — The Hammersmith Palais
rocked with 10 awesome performances of guitar playing for the Riffathon
Live Final 2005, sponsored and supported for the second year running
by VOX. The charity ABC Trust, of which both Jimmy Page and Brian May
are patrons, could not have been more pleased with the support and awareness
raised by the event.
10-year-old Henry Colborne won the VOX AC30 Custom Classic
competition, amazing everyone with his pulsating version of “Wishing
Well” by Free. Henry came 3rd in the main Riffathon competition.
He was a good guitar player but an even greater performer, and the judges
felt that while there may have been better technical guitarists Henry's
overall performance was outstanding.
Martin Tomkins from Kettering was the overall winner with
an awe-inspiring performance of Led Zeppelin’s “Rock &
Roll.” Coming a close second was Stuart Colquhoun who came all
the way from Glasgow to perform ZZ Top’s “Tush.”
Jimmy Page and Brian May were judging the show, along
with Dan Hawkins from The Darkness. They were all blown away by the
high standard of both the finalists and the backing bands, and the decision
to find an ultimate winner proved to be extremely difficult.
The ABC Trust is committed to creating opportunities for
disadvantaged young people of Brazil to have experiences which will
foster healthy growth and development, so that they enjoy a future in
which their children and their children’s children may thrive.
