FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SAE INSTITUTE HOSTS 2ND ANNUAL PLATINUM PANEL WORLD TOUR EVENT AT NEW
YORK CAMPUS
— SAE continues to bring innovative and informative educational
programs to students and pro audio community —
— Event coincides with creation of five new
SAE Institute Platinum Panel Scholarships —
SAE Institute celebrated the success of its Platinum Panel World Tour
Series with the second annual Platinum Panel broadcast event held at
the school’s recently relocated New York campus on Herald Square.
Taking place during the school-supported AES Convention and Remix Hotel,
this second panel brought together world-class producers and engineers
for an insightful and candid exploration of some of the most important
issues facing up-and-coming audio professionals. Along with a worldwide
broadcast and interactive discussion with SAE students in 22 countries,
the event also brings about the creation of 5 new SAE Institute scholarships,
with recipients to be chosen by the panelists.
This year’s panel discussion, which was broadcast
live via the internet and simultaneously heard on Sirius Satellite Radio,
was also webcast to all SAE Institute campuses worldwide, where students
participated in real-time discussion via email and instant messenger.
Students were able to pose questions to the esteemed panel, which included
Steve Baughman (TuPac, Destinys Child, Dr. Dre), Jimmy Douglass (Missy
Elliot, Timbaland, Beck), Mauricio “Veto” Iragorri (Dr.
Dre, Eminem, Good Charlotte), Serban Ghenea (Justin Timberlake, The
Neptunes, Michael Jackson), Trina Shoemaker (Sheryl Crow, Blues Traveler,
Emmy Lou Harris), and live call-in guest panelist Don Was (Rolling Stones,
Elton John, Randy Newman). Alan Parsons also phoned in to announce the
winner of the Alan Parsons SAE Institute Platinum Panel Scholarship
from last year’s inaugural event held at SAE’s Miami, FL
campus, of which Parsons was a panelist.
Topics of discussion at the SAE Institute Platinum Panel
2 event included a wide range of personal experiences of the panelists,
as well as technical challenges and solutions that arise in recording
and production situations. Along with sharing their thoughts on gaining
initial studio experience, the latest innovations in audio equipment,
and what is expected of professionals in the studio environment, panelists
also related the strong integrity and technical ability needed in order
to succeed with any project or client. Engineer/Producer Jimmy Douglass
elaborated, “I think this is really a beneficial program that
SAE has put together, bringing such a variety and caliber of great studio
talents together to share their experiences with the next generation.
These students are the engineers and technicians that will shape the
future of how recording will be done. This is an excellent setting for
us to be able to impart not only our thoughts on the latest technique
or piece of gear, but also the importance that everyone’s role
in the studio — from intern to engineer, artist, and producer
— has to play for a successful session,” Douglass stated.
“The fact that these Platinum Panel events also bring about a
series of new scholarships to be awarded to future pro audio students
is a big bonus for everyone involved. I believe SAE will now become
a great ‘first step’ for an upcoming engineer, which makes
the whole event a success,” Douglass concludes.
“This group of engineers and producers are responsible
for hundreds of millions of albums sold worldwide, with numerous GRAMMY™
awards and nominations,” stated Mark Martin, SAE Institute Vice
President of Marketing/US Operations. “That represents an incredible
amount of experience and dedication to the recording process, and that’s
something that we really try to get across to our students. Gaining
this first-hand knowledge is part of the SAE experience, and it’s
important for us to show our students that these panelists went through
the same learning curve and pushed their own limits, no matter the situation,
to go above and beyond what the next person was capable of giving. We
hope that by providing these webcasts and making these event archives
available on DVD and online, they can serve as a valuable learning and
reference tool for our students and our industry for years to come,”
Martin concludes.

Tour event is available to anyone interested and can be found at http://www.sae.edu/platinum_series_2/.
