SAE INSTITUTE EXPANDS
ELECTRONIC MUSIC PRODUCER COURSES
AT IT'S NEW YORK CAMPUS
— Specialized courses take SAE's pro audio education to the next
level with a stylistic and production-minded approach —
NEW YORK, NY, September 30, 2004 — SAE
Institute, the world leader in pro audio education, has recently commenced
its second series of Electronic Music Producer (EMP) courses at its
New York City campus. Following the success of its first EMP enrollment
in July of 2004, SAE will continue to offer these four elective courses
which directly complement the standard pro audio concepts and ideas
of its acclaimed Audio Technology Program.
The new EMP courses, designed to help musicians and producers
learn the techniques and equipment associated with every style of electronic
music, offer a unique set of curriculum to enhance both the creative
and technical aspects of music production. Students are encouraged to
enroll in all four EMP classes consecutively, but may elect to register
for individual courses, which include:
EMP I - Getting To Know Electronic Music
This course introduces participants to the various styles and musical
makeup of electronic music, including House, Hip-Hop, Trance, Jungle,
and more. Basic music theory is incorporated, along with an introduction
to MIDI, sampling, and various small format mixers and outboard gear,
with a heavy emphasis on DJ'ing.
EMP II - Composing and Recording Electronic Music
Students begin to use MIDI as a composition and recording tool, as well
as learn the basics of other stand-alone beat making programs essential
to electronic music. Audio workstation setup and recording introduces
live sources such as keyboard and vocals to the electronic mix, and
students are encouraged to use their own original material. This series
also includes an introduction to remixing techniques incorporating various
styles and arrangements.
EMP III - Creating Sounds and Sampling
An emphasis is placed on sampling and sound libraries, offering students
a chance to create and personalize their sounds using the latest hardware
and software synthesizers and sampling tools, in both the digital and
analog realms. Classes also focus on song structure and the correct
and tasteful incorporation of the student's unique sounds and styles
into the music.
EMP IV - Getting It Together and Putting It Out
This class impresses the importance of a great final mix, as well as
basic concepts in marketing and releasing a final product. EQ, compression,
and effects techniques are applied, as well as classes on software plug-ins
and discussion on overall advantages and disadvantages of processing
in general. The course concludes with a music business primer, educating
participants on how to copyright and begin shopping their work to record
labels, while retaining basic rights and credits as an artist or producer.
Designed as personal enrichment courses, these six-week
courses may be taken as stand-alone educational enhancements or in addition
to SAE’s Audio Technology Program. Classes consist of a variety
of hands-on classroom lessons and individually scheduled lab times,
and offer the advantages of SAE's exclusive New York campus facilities
and staff.
