KORG ANNOUNCES THE PITCHBLACK+,
AN ULTRA-PRECISE FLOOR TUNER DESIGNED FOR PRO USE
— Unique chromatic pedal tuner delivers up to +/- 0.1 cent accuracy,
True Bypass, plus the ability to connect two guitars or basses simultaneously
and store custom tunings
WINTER NAMM SHOW, ANAHEIM, CA, January 17, 2008
— Korg announces the pitchblack+ guitar and bass pedal tuner as
part of their newly-created advanced tuner series. This new tuner was
designed to satisfy the needs of professional players in both live and
studio applications. Two instruments can be connected at once and tuned
independently using the tuner’s comprehensive range of tuning
modes, including open D, open G, open A, open E and DADGAD. The player,
producer or engineer can also create, save and recall up to five custom
tuning programs with the temperament of his or her choice. This is ideal
when recording or performing with ethnic instruments and stretched tunings.
The pitchblack+ also supports tuning for seven-string guitars and six-string
basses as well as flat tuning up to seven semitones below standard pitch.
When two different guitars or basses are plugged into
the pitchblack+, it will employ a separate calibration, tuning mode,
flat tuning and display mode for each. If a single instrument is connected,
the player can specify two different settings and switch between them
with the Input Select footswitch. When tuning is active, the sound is
muted. True Bypass assures that the instrument’s tone is not colored
or compromised when the tuner is not in use.
A large 13-segment LED meter combined with two sharp and
flat indicators provides high visibility and ensures accurate tuning
under all light conditions and viewing angles.
Two display modes, Single or Double, are user selectable.
In Single, the user can choose between Meter, Full Strobe, Half Strobe
or Mirror tuning modes. Meter mode tuning is similar to a traditional
needle-style meter. In Full Strobe mode, the LED meter stops streaming,
and both tuning guide LEDs light up when the correct pitch is achieved.
In Half Strobe mode, the LEDs stream to the right of center if the instrument
is sharp and to the left of center if it is flat. When the correct pitch
is achieved, only the center LED lights up. Mirror mode uses a combination
of LEDs to indicate how close or far a note is to the correct pitch.
When in tune, the two LEDs on the left and right sides of the center
LED meet in the middle of the display.
When Double mode is selected, the user can choose Focus
Mode 1 or Focus Mode 2, two newly developed modes that offer even greater
precision with excellent visibility.
The pitchblack+ was designed to fit into a standard pedalboard
system, and the unit’s DC OUT can supply power to most other effect
pedals when the optional AC adaptor is used. It features rugged cast
aluminum construction for extra durability.
The new pitchblack+ Chromatic Pedal Tuner provides a broad
tuning range of E0 (20.60 Hz) to C8 (4186 Hz) and calibration that is
adjustable in a range of 436-445 Hz.
The Korg pitchblack+ Chromatic Pedal Tuner will be available
early summer 2008 with a U.S. MSRP of $200.00. As with all Korg tuners,
it features a three year extended warranty.
