NAMM WINTER SESSION, ANAHEIM, CA, January
15, 2004 — British Columbian female powerhouse rockers
Lillix began their steady climb to fame in 1997, when sisters
Tasha Ray Evin (guitarist) and Lacey Lee Evin (keyboardist)
enlisted the talents of Louise Burns (bassist) and Kim Urhahn
(drummer) to help proclaim their fiercely independent, sophisticated
style. They’re now signed to Maverick Records and
touring on the Girlz Garage Tour — along with fellow
rockers Lennon, Brassy, and The Start — in support
of their debut album, Falling Uphill.
Lacey Lee Evin offers a distinctive keyboard
sound to the quartet, and has outfitted her rig with Korg
keyboards for their ability to help express both her individual
spirit and Lillix’s collective vision. Evin explains,
“I believe keyboards are important instruments, and
they’re a big element in this band — they definitely
set us apart from other bands. I play a Korg X5D, which
I have been playing since I started, and also a Korg TRITON
STUDIO. After I played the TRITON STUDIO for the first time
while working with Linda Perry, I fell in love with it.
I play both my keyboards [onstage] on a dual tier stand.”
Lillix have worked diligently to develop a
sound they are proud of, and Evin is quick to point out,
“I think it’s essential that the fans know we
write our own songs. Many of them look up to us, and we
want to set a good example for those wanting to start their
own bands.” The band has also sought out some of the
music industry’s top producers, such as Glen Ballard,
Linda Perry, and John Shanks, to ensure exceptional quality
on their recordings.
