CARMEN RIZZO RELIES ON KORG PRODUCTS
— Acclaimed musician/producer uses Korg synth products and mixers
on various projects including HBO’s upcoming feature The Song
Story —
MELVILLE, NY, July 14, 2008 — Carmen Rizzo
has the career of many musicians’ dreams. A two-time GRAMMY®
nominee, Rizzo’s credits as producer, mixer, remixer, programmer
and co-writer have put him in collaboration with some of the biggest
names in music, and his career as a solo artist and film composer, and
as part of the electronic world music supergroup Niyaz, have brought
him acclaim from all corners of the music world.
Through all of this, Rizzo relies on Korg products for
both inspiration and performance. He states, “I got into the Korg
microX synthesizer for touring with Niyaz. It’s small, super powerful,
lightweight and not very expensive. After I toured with it all around
the world, it went right into my studio setup and I’ve been using
it on records.” In addition to the microX, Carmen has recently
started using the Korg RADIAS synth/vocoder. “It not only looks
super cool, but its parameters are laid out with hardware, so while
you’re performing parts, you can grab a knob and go for it!”
He adds, “The original Electribes have been in my studio setup
since day one. Also, the KAOSS Pad is an instrument in itself. It’s
one of the best products Korg has ever made.”
Rizzo is now using the ZERO4 Live Control Mixer. As a performer who
uses his keen ability to add real-time creativity and expression on
the fly, he appreciates how powerful the ZERO4 is. He enthuses, “I’m
using the $#!p out of the ZERO4 on stage lately. I use it with a KP2
KAOSS Pad – love it! The ZERO4 has changed the meaning of a real
live mixer; I treat it like another instrument on stage.”
Rizzo has worked with artists such as Seal, Coldplay,
Alanis Morissette, Paul Oakenfold, Cirque du Soleil, k.d. lang and Pete
Townshend, as well as producers Trevor Horn, Rob Cavallo and Don Was,
to name a few. His debut solo album The Lost Art of the Idle Moment
(The Lab/Universal, 2005) received overwhelmingly positive reviews and
was prominently featured in USA Today as it went on to see heavy rotation
on Sirius and XM Satellite radio as well as influential L.A. station
KCRW. Also, he co-founded the electronic world music group Niyaz, which
stormed up the world music charts with their eponymous debut (Six Degrees
Records, 2005). He recently composed his first film score, for director
Michael Apted’s The Power of the Game. As one would expect, Rizzo
has a number of recent and upcoming projects currently on his plate,
including his second solo album The Ornament of an Impostor (Electrophone
Music) (currently available from iTunes and other outlets) and the sophomore
Niyaz release Nine Heavens, expected in mid-2008, in addition to his
new remix of rock act Blue October and his involvement in HBO’s
upcoming feature The Song Story.
