GUITAR CENTER SESSIONS FEATURING DAVE MUSTAINE
OF MEGADETH ATTRACTS THOUSANDS AT HOLLYWOOD, CA STORE
— Guitar Center and Marshall Amplification host the latest Guitar
Center Sessions
with legendary metal icon, Dave Mustaine of Megadeth —
WESTLAKE VILLAGE, CA, July 24, 2008 — As
part of its continuing effort to help musicians further their musical
aspirations and provide tools for career growth, Guitar Center, the
nation's leading musical instrument and professional audio retailer,
held its latest Guitar Center Sessions event with legendary songwriter/guitarist
Dave Mustaine of Megadeth. The free event took place Thursday, July
10th, at Guitar Center’s Hollywood store, located at 7425 Sunset
Blvd., from 6:00-9:00 pm.
Co-sponsored by Marshall Amplification, the over-capacity
event showcased an intimate discussion, plus live performances, with
one of metal’s most legendary icons. Since forming Megadeth in
1983, Dave Mustaine has gone 20 times platinum, has received seven GRAMMY®
nominations, and has influenced and inspired a generation of guitarists
and fans alike.
A music education-based initiative featuring informative,
provocative discussions and hands-on tutorials, GC Sessions serves as
an incubator for musicians and provides them an opportunity to network
with their peers while gaining insight and knowledge from their heroes
in a comfortable and intimate setting.
The evening began with Mustaine being interviewed by Full
Metal Jackie of southern California’s Indie 103.1 FM, who led
a 90 minute conversation touching on Mustaine’s career, the state
of the music industry, his approach to songwriting and his experiences
in the recording studio and on the live stage, as well as an in-depth
discussion of the various gear he uses to create his signature sound.
Mustaine shared stories from his past and talked about his current projects
and then took time to answer questions from the audience during the
night’s Q&A session. This was followed by an intimate signing,
where over 1,500 fans lined up to have their guitars, posters and records
autographed.
“Guitar Center is honored to have the opportunity
to feature Dave Mustaine as part of our GC Sessions series. Dave is
a tremendous musician, and more importantly, an incredible human being.
When Dave heard we were interested in having him participate, he not
only jumped at the opportunity, but he also donated his artist fee to
the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation,” stated Dustin Hinz,
Manager of Event Marketing and Promotions for Guitar Center. “Guitar
Center Sessions is one of the purest exemplifications of our commitment
to providing aspiring musicians the tools they need to succeed. By connecting
some of the most influential artists with up-and-coming musicians, we
hope to play a part in fostering a new generation of talent.”
