TAMPA’S JOURNEY CHRISTIAN CHURCH LOOKS
TO GUITAR CENTER PROFESSIONAL FOR ITS NEW WORSHIP FACILITY’S UNIQUE
A/V NEEDS
— GC Pro provides crucial help in choosing technology products
for audio, projection video, acoustical treatment and lighting for church’s
new worship space —
— From the “vision-casting” stage through supervising
the systems installation and integration, GC Pro works as a close partner
with ministries to assure that they have the right technologies and
systems for what they currently need, in addition to being ready for
future expansion and upgrades —
WESTLAKE VILLAGE, CA, April 21, 2009 —
When Journey Christian Church made the decision to invest in a brand
new facility, it chose Guitar Center Professional (GC Pro), the outside
sales division of Guitar Center that focuses on the needs of professional
users, as its partner to provide a wide range of A/V products, support
and consultation. Journey looked to GC Pro to make certain that the
new sanctuary’s technology systems would be at the cutting edge
of today’s standards and to prepare the church for future systems
upgrades as its technical ministry expands. As part of Journey’s
new facility, GC Pro collaborated with the church’s leaders in
choosing and supervising the installation of systems that covered all
aspects of A/V technology.
• Audio systems include a JBL VERTEC® VRX flown
line array P.A. system including subs, a large complement of both wired
and wireless microphones from Shure and Sennheiser and acoustical control
elements from Primacoustic™, which were integrated with sanctuary
design elements to produce both beautiful and practical solutions to
deal with the complex acoustic nature of the space.
• Theatrical lighting systems include a Leprecon®
LP-X24 DMX lighting console, Altman Illumination Fresnel lighting fixtures
and Elation PAR64 fixtures, as well as a dimming system for the architectural
lighting and rigging for the theatrical lighting.
• Video components include a Dalite Cinema Contour
Projection Screen, an Eiki LCX-80 SXVGA HD video projector, a Kramer
VP-728 Pro Scale 9-input scaler/switcher presentation controller and
a Gefen video distribution system over CAT-5 cabling. This system fulfills
the church’s diverse projection needs, which include words for
worship, sermon notes, video/special content playback and IMAG image
magnification. Successful integration of the system components was especially
tricky, as they must be operationally practical yet visually inconspicuous.
Additionally, all systems are managed and protected by
Furman power sequencing systems, which turn systems on and off in a
safe, ordered manner.
The products and systems are just part of what GC Pro
offers churches, notes Mick Hall, GC Pro Account Manager in Tampa. “We
worked with Journey, as we do with all of our church clients, from the
conceptual ‘vision-casting’/pre-planning stage, right through
installation and after-the-sale training for the equipment.” During
the seven-month-long project, Hall met regularly with the church’s
architects, electricians, general contractor and other key principals
to make sure that all systems and infrastructure were properly integrated
into the finished building.
Furthermore, GC Pro and Hall recommended and supervised
the installation of additional cabling that would allow the church to
add new systems, such as distributed audio and video, image magnification
and digital cameras, as the needs of the ministry grow. “We also
made sure the audio console had enough additional channels that it could
accommodate the church’s music as the number of musicians increased,”
says Hall.
Hall is equally proud of the fact that, as part of its
philosophy of partnering with its worship clients in shaping the technical
ministry’s visions and choosing technologies, GC Pro also encourages
the members of the church at all levels to participate in the implementation
of those technologies. “We had members of the congregation in
there with us pulling wires and helping in every way they could,”
says Hall. “That kind of involvement really gets the congregation
excited as it gives them an opportunity to serve and become directly
involved in the project. For churches, major improvements and new building
projects represent more than just structures and gear. Encouraging the
church membership to become involved in the process not only saves the
church money, but it also strengthens the ministry by building teamwork
and a sense of community.”
The success of the project is neatly summed up by Journey
Christian Church Pastor Keith Chandler, who stated, “We were at
a crucial crossroads – we had been meeting in a local school for
many years, and now we needed a dedicated, aesthetically complementary
building, with top-quality sound, light and video components, but we
also needed to stay within our budget. We selected GC Pro and Mick Hall
because of their expertise, knowledge and understanding of system design
for worship and ministry. Our new building not only looks great, but
the systems Mick selected make everything feel like home.”
