Audio-Technica ATUC-50 Digital Wired Discussion System Gives
STR-Miami Ultimate Control Over The Most Complex Large-Scale Conference And Event Production Scenarios

— STR-Miami saw the potential in the ATUC-50’s feature set that made it perfect for the live-event production they specialize in, and A-T was able to create a modification to the ATUC-50CU that made the system
even more precisely tailored for STR’s applications —

STOW, OH, September 28, 2016 STR-Miami, a leading South Florida AV systems integration company that specializes in live-event production, has been an ardent fan of Audio-Technica, a leading innovator in transducer technology, products and systems for over 50 years. The company, which provides AVL services and design production for meetings, conventions, conferences, resorts, fashion shows and other special events throughout the region, has come to rely on A-T’s design, efficiency and reliability to meet the events needs for a wide range of clients. But they’re also a great example of how Audio-Technica works with its clients to let them excel in their market.

When STR-Miami was gearing up for a large hotel conference recently, company Purchasing Manager Gary Grocher and Technical Director Mahesh Patel were discussing how often microphone connections at large-scale events are easily inadvertently pulled out as attendees move around a break-out or conference room. It had even happened with A-T’s ATUC-50 Digital Wired Discussion System — a conference microphone system originally intended for the installed-audio market but which STR-Miami had adapted for live-event applications.

“The ATUC-50 is an incredible system,” exclaims Grocher, extolling the system’s 24-bit/48 kHz uncompressed digital audio that delivers clear and intelligible communication, significantly increasing meeting efficiency and effectiveness, its ability to record a meeting directly to a mass-storage device on the front of the control unit, and its choice of two gooseneck lengths, as well as the unit’s ability to be configured via Web Remote Control, with settings able to be stored as presets for easy recall. “The ATUC-50’s form factor is small, so it looks great on tables and doesn’t obscure views, but its high sensitivity enables it to pick up delicate sound, so meetings always have high voice intelligibility. While it was developed for installed applications, we’ve also found it to be a great product for live-event production.” Patel adds, “The Phoenix connector in the back of these kind of microphone bases are prone to being pulled out. That’s not a problem in an installed situation, where the connector is protected. But it can become an issue in an event production scenario.” In their discussions about the vulnerability of any mic connection being disconnected during large events, Grocher brought in Mark Donovan, Audio-Technica’s Sales Engineer – Installed Sound, into the conversation. “Grocher asked Donovan if A-T could come up with a solution for the dilemma. “He said, ‘Give us a few days,’” Grocher recalls.

Indeed, A-T engineering did come up with a solution, one that they had delivered to STR-Miami shortly after the conversation, in time for another large-scale corporate event at a Miami hotel. The solution — simple and elegant yet completely effective — was a new plate for the rear of the ATUC-50’s control unit that could also accommodate XLR and RCA jacks, eliminating the need for the Phoenix adapter, if desired, and providing a much more secure cable connection. It was used to connect nearly 70 Discussion Units for recent events at a hotel conference center and at the University of Miami. “It was the perfect solution,” says Patel. “A-T understood what we were trying to do and gave us exactly what we needed. It’s going to be a solution we can use for years to come, too.” Grocher says that’s what they’ve come to expect from Audio-Technica. “The ATUC-50 is a great product, and A-T was able to tailor it for our application and make it even better for the ways we need to use it,” he explains. “That’s why Audio-Technica is our go-to solutions provider.”

The ATUC-50 system is designed for intuitive operation and plug-and-play functionality. The system provides 24-bit/48 kHz uncompressed digital audio for clear and intelligible audio. While available at a cost-effective price point, the system offers superb power and flexibility, including multi-mode operation, 12-band feedback suppressor, and ability to record a meeting directly to a mass storage device on the front of the control unit and interpretation channels. Employing standard Cat5 (and above) cables, a complete system can support up to 3 ATUC-50CU control units and 150 ATUC-50DU discussion units can be connected in either daisy chain or ring topology (for added redundancy) and controlled from any web browser with no need for additional software installation. Configuration via Web Remote Control is simple and quick, with settings able to be stored as presets for easy recall. The user-friendly design of the ATUC-50 and its extensive feature set make it ideal for applications throughout the corporate sector (including boardrooms and meeting rooms), government facilities, multilingual conference needs, hospitality (hotels, conventions, etc.), courts and judicial facilities, education, rental and more.
