WATERSOUND, FLORIDA, November 29, 2012 — As a featured exhibit of the Intrepid Art Gallery of Vero Beach, Florida, Colleen Duffley Productions and Studio b. present Light Impressions: A Celebration of iPhone Photography at the Red Dot Art Fair in Miami Beach. From December 5 through 9, 2012, Miami Beach becomes an arts mecca as galleries, collectors, aficionados and art critics from around the world gather for the 12th Edition of Art Basel Miami Beach. Red Dot Art Fair runs concurrently with Art Basel Miami Beach and distinguishes itself as having created a fair for galleries that specialize in emerging, mid-career and established artists that seek to represent work of lasting value that goes beyond current trends.

Light Impressions: A Celebration of iPhone® Photography showcases the curated work of 40 iPhoneographers from around the world on 40 iPad units. It is the first iPhone photography exhibit of this scale and importance in the world. “This is truly a groundbreaking showcase. Never before has iPhone photography been exhibited with this level of deference to the art form,” said Studio b. founder and renowned commercial and editorial photographer Colleen Duffley.

She continued, “Four years ago, our very first creative showcase at Studio b. was a global camera-phone event. Subsequently, we elevated iPhoneography to the art form level it deserves by creating the Light Impressions installation. We demonstrated the extent to which Studio b. is dedicated to growing and changing with technology. It is extremely flattering to be a guest exhibitor at Intrepid Art Gallery during Red Dot Art Fair, a gallery and event that recognize the evolution of the relationship between art and technology.”

With an iPad assigned to each artist, each unit features 13 photos from a particular artist’s collection looping at different intervals. Another iPad is used to stream the entire show online at Studio b.’s website (www.studiobthebeach.com). The iPad’s were made available through the generous sponsorship of Studio b. patrons Steve and Lynn Dugas.

Noted Duffley, “Whether regular patrons of Studio b. can join us in Miami Beach or not, there will be video broadcasts of the exhibit for anyone to enjoy at any time. After all, Studio b. is an experience, not merely a place.”

Light Impressions was conceived originally as part of a Studio b. themed exhibit entitled Rock, Paper, Digital that showcased a range of artistic work through time, from primitive methods and mediums through the most contemporary. Duffley seized the opportunity to add a touch of primitive to the Light Impressions exhibit; the metal structure on which the 40 iPad units are mounted was made of materials recovered from the wreckage of 1995’s Hurricane Opal that had blown off of a local restaurant.

“It seemed appropriate to me – iPhone photography in particular has a ‘found-art’ sensibility to it, and what better way to frame it than on repurposed materials?” said Duffley.

Light Impressions was created out of Duffley’s enthusiasm for iPhone photography and the belief that this new artistic medium positions everyone with a desire to express his or her creativity on a level playing field.

“iPhone photography is still an emerging art form,” adds Duffley. “I know people are going to be astounded when they see what is being done in the movement. All of it is on an iPhone – from the capture of an image to its processing and publishing. It is really mind-blowing and wonderful. It’s a pure art form – far more about the creativity than about expensive gear or intricate techniques.”

Light Impressions will be on display at Red Dot Art Fair’s Opening Reception on Tuesday, December 4 from 6:00 – 10:00 p.m. in the Wynwood Arts District, 3011 N.E. 1st Avenue at 31st Street, Miami, FL. Fair hours are December 5-9, 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Red Dot will open until 8:00 p.m. on December 6-8. The booth location for the Intrepid Gallery, which is exhibiting Light Impressions, is E108.
