WATERSOUND, FLORIDA, April 25, 2013 — Northwest Florida’s creative venue Studio b.’s exhibition “Light Impressions On Tour™” is headed to New Orleans, Louisiana, where it will be on display for an evening of creativity at the Amanda Talley Studio Gallery, 1382 Magazine Street, on May 1, 2013, from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. In addition, Studio b. will show its Mobile Art Chandelier™, which celebrates the submissions of camera phone images of the “everyman’s” experience in the Big Easy.

Light Impressions™: A Celebration of iPhone Photography showcases the curated work of 40 iPhoneographers from around the world on 40 iPad units. It is the first iPhone photography exhibit of this magnitude in the world. The Mobile Art Chandelier displays the published work of iPhoneographers on printed postcards that dangle from a hanging display. Light Impressions has seen previous installations at Studio b.’s home base in Florida, as well as at arts events in Miami (during the prestigious Art Basel), Austin and Los Angeles, and the exhibit has now inspired a coffee table book, which will be making its public debut at the New Orleans opening on May 1.

“This is truly a groundbreaking showcase. Never before has iPhone photography been exhibited on this scale and with this level of deference,” said Studio b. founder and world-renowned photographer Colleen Duffley. She continues, “Four years ago, our very first creative showcase at Studio b. was a global camera-phone event. We elevated iPhoneography to a higher level with the Light Impressions installation and demonstrated the extent to which Studio b. is dedicated to growing and changing with technology. It is extremely flattering to show Light Impressions in the studio gallery of such an established New Orleans artist as Amanda Talley on one of the most creative streets in the U.S.”

With an iPad assigned to each artist, each unit features 13 photos from a particular artist’s collection looping at different intervals. Another iPad is used to stream the entire show online at Studio b.’s website. The iPad’s were made available through the generous sponsorship of Studio b. patrons Steve and Lynn Dugas.

“I am so very excited to be hosting Light Impressions and its creator Colleen Duffley in New Orleans,” stated Amanda Talley, New Orleans-based painter and owner of her eponymous studio. “The expressionistic nature of camera phone photography is something that relates to my process as a painter. Some of the most interesting things happen in the moment, and having a camera phone capture that is a new phenomenon. All perspectives are relevant, and in the process of capturing images, individuals are creating their own compositions. Someone who never used a camera before is now faced with deciding what makes a beautiful or interesting photograph. I love the spontaneity of this new form and look very forward to sharing these new voices with New Orleans. Please come share and participate in Light Impressions with us. We look forward to seeing everyone on May 1st.”

Light Impressions was conceived as part of a Studio b. themed exhibit entitled Rock, Paper, Digital that showcased a range of artistic work through time, from primitive methods and mediums through the most contemporary. Duffley seized the opportunity to add a touch of primitive to the Light Impressions exhibit; the metal structure on which the 40 iPad units are mounted was made of materials recovered from the wreckage of 1995’s Hurricane Opal that had blown off a local restaurant. “It seemed appropriate to me – iPhone photography in particular has a ‘found-art’ sensibility to it, and what better way to frame it than on repurposed materials?” said Duffley.

Created by Duffley, a Florida-based, internationally acclaimed photographer, Light Impressions was conceived out of Duffley’s enthusiasm for iPhone photography and the belief that this new artistic medium positions everyone with a desire to express their creativity on a level playing field. “iPhone photography is still an emerging art form,” adds Duffley. “I know people are going to be astounded when they see what is being done in the movement. All of it is on an iPhone – from the capture of an image to its processing and publishing. It is really mind-blowing and wonderful. It’s a very pure art form – far more about the creativity than about expensive gear or intricate techniques.”

The opening is May 1, and the installation will continue to be on display until May 21 at Talley’s studio gallery. The next stop for Light Impressions will be at the Mountain Film Festival in Telluride, Colorado, May 24-27, 2013.
