THE RECORDING ACADEMY® PACIFIC NORTHWEST CHAPTER
IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE PRODUCERS & ENGINEERS WING
HOSTS SECOND ANNUAL MUSICTECH SUMMIT IN SEATTLE
Music and Technology Industry Architects Examine Forces Defining Next
Decade;
Nettwerk CEO Terry McBride To Give Keynote Address
SEATTLE, Wash. (Oct. 18, 2007) —The Recording
Academy® Pacific Northwest Chapter in association with the Producers
and Engineers Wing is hosting its second annual MusicTech Summit, a
two-day conference examining the intersection of music and technology
with an emphasis on how the changing landscape can empower artists and
further their careers. The conference will consist of seven panels with
top-level music and technology leaders, hands-on demonstrations, and
a keynote address by Terry McBride, CEO of Nettwerk Music Group. The
MusicTech Summit will be held at the Experience Music Project’s
JBL Theater and Learning Labs on Friday, Nov. 2 from 9 a.m. –
6 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 3 from 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Closing receptions
will be held following each night at Solo Bar.
“Seattle is quickly becoming ground zero for the
music industry so it makes perfect sense that we should build a conference
of this nature in a city where technology is currently challenging the
way major labels do business,” said Pacific Northwest Chapter
Executive Director Ben London. As a region we are defining the future
of how people will listen to, purchase and share music, so we are extremely
excited to once again host the conference."
The event will focus on how artists can make the most
of the changing technological landscape. Panelists will address seven
topics: the look of the new label; monetizing music in the digital age;
the future of digital distribution; the effects of congressional policy
on the music business; touring and technology; social networking; and
mobile devices and music.
CEO and founder of the Nettwerk Music Group, McBride,
will give the keynote address at 10 a.m. on Saturday Nov. 3. Founded
in his basement in 1984, Nettwerk now has major corporate offices around
the word and has released more than 400 albums with worldwide sales
over 100 million. Nettwerk Management exclusive clients include such
artists as Avril Lavigne, Barenaked Ladies, Dido, Stereophonics, Sarah
McLachlan, All Saints and Jamiroquai. Most recently, McBride has turned
his attentions to advances in digital technology, intellectual property
rights and the future of music distribution.
The conference will feature leaders from the music and
technology fields from artist Dave Allen (Gang Of Four) and manager
Randy Irwin (Arctic Monkeys) to Pandora CEO Joe Kennedy and SoundExchange
Executive Director John Simson. Additionally, there will be demonstrations
on how to create a podcast, among other crucial skills (9:30 a.m., Friday
Nov. 2).
Cost of the summit is free for members of The Recording
Academy as well as members of the GRAMMY® University Network. Tickets
are $100 for the general public for a two-day pass, or $75 for a one-day
pass.
