Los Angeles, California, August 26, 2015 – The Recording Radio and Film Connection (RRF), a network of unique educational, instructional and mentorship programs developed for aspiring media professionals created in 1983, is proud to announce that three recent graduates of The Recording Connection’s apprenticeship program have been nominated for the A.I.R. (Best Assistant, Intern or Runner) Award in the second annual Pensado Awards. The Pensado Awards were conceived and organized by the team behind Pensado’s Place, the acclaimed weekly web series known as the most influential show for audio engineers, mixers and producers. This year’s winners will be announced at the live ceremony, which will take place on Sunday, August 30, 2015, at Sony Pictures Studios, 10202 W. Washington Blvd., Culver City, CA 90232. A video production of the ceremony will follow and be posted on the Pensado’s Place YouTube channel.

The Recording Connection’s three apprentices among the A.I.R. Award nominees are Jake Kiyokane, Michael Messina and Paul Ramirez.

Kiyokane entered The Recording Connection’s bachelor-equivalent program in February 2014 and completed the program requirements, going on to study in the advanced program, graduating fully from both in May 2015. Following that, he mentored under Cameell Hanna and Steve Catizone at Los Angeles-based Serenity West Recording, where he now works as an assistant engineer.

Messina began The Recording Connection’s bachelor-equivalent program in January 2013 and fully graduated from the advanced program in September 2014. He mentored under Sax DMA at New York City’s QUAD Recording Studios, as well as ran the live sound at a prestigious arts camp in Long Lake, New York.

Ramirez began the bachelor-equivalent program in December 2014 and graduated from that program in May 2015. He mentored under Jim Pavett at Allusion Studios in Tucson, Arizona. He is now finishing construction on his new mobile recording studio, and he’ll soon be hitting the road to record and produce artists on tour.

“We are immensely proud of all of our apprentices, notably the individuals Michael Messina, Jake Kiyokane and Paul Ramirez, three breakout stars among our many talented young engineers,” stated Brian Kraft, RRF Chief Academic Officer/COO. “Pensado’s Place and Dave and Herb value innovation and forward-thinking in the recording industry – an attitude that complements RRF’s apprenticeship model perfectly. We congratulate Jake, Michael and Paul on their nominations, and we hope one of them is among the winners’ list on August 30!”
