INFOCOMM, ORLANDO, FL, June 17, 2009 —
Marantz® Professional is displaying the PMD580 Solid State Recorder,
the latest addition to its highly successful family of rackmount digital
recorders. The PMD580 uses proven, stable Compact Flash (CF) as its
recording medium, with the inherent reliability of no moving parts.
The unit brings many of the same features and high sonic quality found
in the PMD® Series recorders but adds a crucial new dimension: network
connectivity. Via its Ethernet port, the PMD580 can be positioned as
a network device, allowing users to set menu parameters, schedule recording
events, and transfer and archive audio files, all by using a web-based
GUI interface from any PC in the network. Network accessibility allows
users of solid-state digital recording devices, such as universities
and government agencies, the ability to archive audio files effortlessly
even at designated times, and it makes managing multiple units a breeze.
The PMD580 also has an internal clock for scheduling recording events.
For instance, lectures could be automatically scheduled for recording,
multiple events can be scheduled via the web interface and recorded
files can then be downloaded to a local PC with drag-and-drop simplicity.
Of course, files can also be uploaded automatically to a server or network
location, at a user specified time or immediately upon the conclusion
of a scheduled recording.
The unit also adds balanced XLR inputs and outputs, S/PDIF
as well as AES/EBU digital interfaces and RS-232 control. The new PMD580
offers MP3 and WAV recording formats, and users can select between 16-bit
and 24-bit resolution.
Also being displayed are single-rackspace PMD570 and PMD560
Solid State Recorders. The PMD570 records in mono or stereo directly
to Compact Flash cards in MP3, MP2, WAV and Broadcast WAV formats. With
over 40 quality settings, the PMD570 supports sample rates from 16 to
48 kHz and bit rates from 32 to 384 kbps, as well as full-quality 16-bit
PCM resolution. The recorder is able to create a new file (track increment)
while recording and files can be created in intervals of 1, 5, 10, 15
and 30 minutes as well as 1-, 2-, 6-, 8-, 12- and 24-hour intervals
for long-term, unattended audio recording. A comprehensive input and
output complement on the PMD570 includes balanced XLR line inputs with
trim, unbalanced RCA line in and out, and stereo S/PDIF input and output
on coaxial RCA jacks. Remote control is provided via full two-way RS-232-C
interfacing; users can set up, change and replace all preset settings
with a PC. In addition, the PMD570 features USB connectivity for easy
linking and file transfer to a PC or Mac. Audio files can be instantly
dragged and dropped to the computer, eliminating wasted time doing transfers.
A lower-price alternative, PMD560 offers the same recording quality
and RS-232 system control with cost effective features.
