Nashville, TN: As part of a recent studio renovation that included Carl Tatz Acoustic Lens™ modules by Auralex, custom console furniture by Sound Construction & Supply and a 60" Samsung video monitor, Willisoundz studio owner John Willis chose to upgrade to the latest PhantomFocus™ System technology, replacing his 2006 legacy analog PFS to drive his Dynaudio Air 20 monitors.
During a recent Rode microphone shoot-out project at the studio with GRAMMY®-nominated engineer/producer/educator John Merchant, who is also owner of the award-winning Carl Tatz Design studio Red Door as well as a Dual PFS user, Merchant suggested that Willis move up to the new 2013 PFS technology. Although pleased with his earlier-generation PFS monitoring, the new system's performance came as quite a shock. Even though he anticipated being impressed, he was not prepared for its impact. "When I first sat down to experience the new system, I was sick," laments Willis. "It made everything so crystal-clear, 3D, and full-frequency range-accurate, I wanted to go back and remix everything I've ever done. Kudos to Carl and the new PhantomFocus System for continuing to make my little slice of home studio a world-class facility."
When virtuoso guitar session player John Willis is not creating studio "magic" around town for the likes of Taylor Swift, Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw and a long list of other top Nashville artists, he is working on any number of mainstream and independent acts as a producer/musician/engineer in his personal studio, Willisoundz. His studio production modus operandi has evolved into a sort of high-tech one-man-band/mad scientist approach that he controls like a musical Dr. Frankenstein, creating monster sounds from his "cockpit" array of recording and musical instrument gear. He advises, "Don't settle for second place. Carl is the master – invest in your studio's future with the PhantomFocus System."

About the PhantomFocus™ System
Carl Tatz Design’s proprietary PhantomFocus™ System monitor tuning protocol offers clients a unique opportunity to have a truly world-class monitoring experience in their room, no matter how modest. All speakers interact with the room they’re in, and the PhantomFocus™ System allows any monitors to perform at maximum accuracy - in any room - with a full 20Hz-to-20KHz frequency response and pinpoint imaging in what some owners have described as a “holographic sweet spot.” It is a new level of sonic accuracy that engenders easier, better and faster mixing that translates well in any environment.
There are approximately fifty steps in the proprietary PhantomFocus™ System implementation protocol, including phase alignment, system damping, speaker decoupling and isolation mounting, careful assessment of engineer/speaker placement relative to primary axial room modes, proprietary laser-calibrated speaker distancing and angle alignments, digitally-controlled crossover points and slopes for pass filtering, and, proprietary, multiband parametric equalization.
Hardware solutions can include monitor stands, concrete, Sorbothane™ and other isolation and damping materials, custom floating plenum mounts, subwoofer systems and custom digital processors. The PhantomFocus™ System evaluation and implementation is a full two-day process and can be applied to near-fields, mid-fields, and large soffit mounted monitors, regardless of manufacturer.
Carl Tatz Design installs the PhantomFocus™ System in existing control rooms and in all studios that are designed and built from the ground up by CTD. The result is like the aural equivalent of HD TV. Once you experience a PhantomFocus™ System, you can’t go back.
