THE NAMM SHOW, ANAHEIM, CA, JANUARY 23, 2014 – Auralex® Acoustics, Inc. (booth 7424), the world’s leading brand of acoustical treatments, is exhibiting its HoverMat™ Isolation Platform and HoverDeck™ Isolation Riser. Used together or separately, these two products isolate a drum set or percussion set-up from the floor or a hollow stage, reducing coloration from floor resonance by decoupling the drum kit, thereby resulting in a tighter, more pure sound for both studio and live applications.
The HoverMat is a sturdy, slip-resistant drummers’ mat that improves acoustical isolation and clarifies drum tone. The HoverMat features a 4'x6' section of Auralex’s acclaimed sound-deadening SheetBlok™ sound barrier material, covered with charcoal gray Ozite-type, commercial-grade, road-ready carpet, and is ideal for musicians on the go, worship groups, live performance venues, or anywhere a drum kit needs additional isolation. The HoverMat can be rolled up after any performance or session, and the included heavy-duty cinch sack makes transport a breeze.
The more substantial HoverDeck’s rugged MDF laminate core and IsoPuck™ modular risers minimize structure-borne sound transmission and sympathetic vibrations between drums and hardware. The HoverDeck is available in two models; the HD-64Gig, designed for typical four and five-piece drum kits, and the HD-88Concert, configured for larger drum kits and touring applications. Both configurations utilize a set of low-profile isolating boards that assemble quickly via strategically placed hook and loop fasteners. Either model is offered with an optional rugged road case.
Recent users of the HoverMat/HoverDeck combination include drummers Dane Clark (John Mellencamp, Ian Hunter, Steve Earle, Donovan, Moby Grape); Aaron Comess (Spin Doctors, Joan Osborne); Peter Erskine (Weather Report, Steely Dan, Diana Krall); Jason McGerr (Death Cab for Cutie); Sammy Merendino (TONY® Award-winning Broadway Musical "Kinky Boots", Cyndi Lauper, Pat Metheny, Billy Joel); and Rich Redmond (Jason Aldean, Kelly Clarkson, Lit, Jewel, Thompson Square).
“I take my HoverMat on the road and into sessions, and engineers love it,” says Redmond. “Jason Aldean’s FOH mixer says it sounds great on stage and through the PA system. It really isolates the kit from the floor and keeps the sound tighter. I pretty much take it everywhere. It’s portable and affordable.”
Merendino states, "In addition to using the HoverMat with the show, I am also using the HoverMat and HoverDeck in my studio, as the control room is right below the drum room. Works so well!"
